Loughborough University launch award winning Mathscard campaign with Z-CARD®

Loughborough University developed a direct marketing initiative which was launched targeting all schools and colleges in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

Loughborough University decided to use the Z-CARD®, as they recognised their popularity amongst potential applicants. The solution involved the creation and distribution of an A-level 'Pure Maths' Formulae Sheet. Combining the skills of Loughborough University's mathematics support centre with the innovativeness of the Z-CARD®, a highly retainable and informative tool was created. Distributed as a series of direct mailings to maths teachers in schools and colleges, the success of the A-level card resulted in a GCSE variant in 2004 to help promote the Loughborough brand and all of its courses to potential students.

The Results:
Loughborough University now produces over half a million GCSE & A-level revision mathscards with Z-CARD® annually, distributing direct to over 3,500 schools and colleges across the UK. The A-level Z-CARD® received a gold award at the Heist Marketing, award organisers said "the judges were confident in saying that this entry was exemplar of outstanding direct marketing"

80% of GCSE users & 96% of A-level users found the cards "useful" or "very useful" for their studies while an impressive 70% of teachers said the mathscards actually "improved their students understanding of maths".

Loughborough University has experienced a year on year increase in the response rate to mailings since the launch of the mathscard and this has helped the University to achieve an increase in applications since its inception.

Both students and teachers alike have expressed a wish that the Z-CARD® revision guide is extended to cover other core subjects to help students prepare for their exams.
